The honest column
- Non-working home organs (Lowrey, Thomas, Gulbransen class) are routinely worth nothing — community quotes: Lowrey Holiday “its value absolutely zero”; a working TBO sold for $50. Several church dealers openly refuse to take vintage home organs at all.
- Transport is the real number: moving a console can cost more than a project organ is worth, and disposal services charge by volume. Price a move before you price the sale.
- Condition beats model: a restored B-3 quadruples a project B-3, and a Leslie in the deal adds thousands — restoration itself runs $150/hour plus parts.
- Be careful with auto-generated “price guides” — during our research the value search results were dominated by templated AI blogs. Ours cites dealers and owners with dates.
Selling route
Vintage buyers hang out on eBay and Reverb; console organs also move locally (Facebook Marketplace, church networks). Church organ dealers and Hammond specialists buy outright — expect wholesale, not retail. For home organs with no market, the honest options are donation with a tax note or a paid haul-away.
